User Rating:It used to be to create a movie one would need some large camera equipment. Now it seems that all one needs is an iPhone and a copy of iMovie. However, upon purchase of the iMovie app, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of disappointment.
It’s a great app. In it, one can start a new project and choose a theme for it from a few options. From there, the user can add several clips with either the camera or from the media library and join them using a few different types of transitions. It’s also possible to change the audio track to anything that is in the audio library. From there, once the movie is complete, it’s possible to export it to another source in as high as 720p resolution.
My major problem with the app is the limited nature of the choices. The app comes with only three transition types and five themes. It would be nice to even be able to customize a theme. This program is more for the casual movie-maker rather than someone who is serious about it (which sort of makes sense, since the serious folks would most like want to use heavy-duty editing software like Final Cut Pro.
Despite this, the software is still fun to use. You can make your own music videos and upload them directly to YouTube. No doubt many a great moviemaker of the future will remember his or her humble beginnings using only an iPhone and the iMovie app.
Quick Take
Value:High.
Would I Buy Again:Absolutely.
Learning Curve:Medium-Low.
Who Is It For:Aspiring directors or people that just want YouTube fodder.
What I Like:Easy to use. Intuitive interface.
What I Don't Like:Doesn't offer much in the way of theme or transition choices.
