Among the most important works in Hindu philosophy are those of Adi Shankara. One of the most well-known is Bhaja Govindam, and the app by that name gives the reader the prayer or text in Sanskrit, Hindu, and English. Those who follow the same beliefs as Adi Shankara will appreciate the convenience of being able to carry around the full hymn on their mobile device. It is divided into individual verses with full translations.

This means the reader can really understand how he placed so much emphasis on devotion for God, and the path to spiritual development. Many scholars and students of Vedantic principles and thought have come to believe that the Bhaja Govindam is a composition that has captured the core principles of their faith, and is the reason that both Smarthas and Vaishnavas accept and use the text.

Not all 27 verses are reproduced in the app, but it does include the fourteen that are believed to have been added by Adi Shankara’s disciples who were with him on the day he had his legendary discussion with the ancient scholar.

The Bhaja Govindam app is a good addition to any mobile Hindu text library, and currently there are not many options offering such comprehensive translations as this one. It is compatible only with iPod Touch and iPhone devices.

The cost of the app is $.99, and additional texts are available from the developer.

If you follow the Hindu philosophies and need a ready reference to one of its key texts this is the ideal and most convenient way to acquire it.
