Open Source Control, or OSC, is a way for people to enjoy real-time control of sound and other networked media. With the TouchOSC app, the user can send and receive OSC messages which provide a form of remote control over software implementing the protocol.

Confused? The TouchOSC app will create a comprehensive connection between numerous networked devices and provide the user with a single touch screen which can control them. For example, many musicians will use their device to connect complicated DJ software to the instruments and synthesizers they require to do their work. They can then avoid staring into various laptop screens and instead just create the fades, loops, and toggles they want using the touch screen on their mobile device.

The controls include rotary and push button options, faders, LEDs and labels too. There is a limit of five active controls at one time, and the app is also capable of forwarding Accelerometer data across the connection. Although there are five pre-loaded page layouts, the user can also create their own pages with the companion software installed on a Mac computer.

While there are many music mixing applications, such as OSCemote and technoBox, the TouchOSC app is one that creates an innovative alternative to an entire mixing system and puts controls in the palm of the hand.

The cost for the app is $4.99, and any updates will be made available for no additional fees. This app functions with iPod Touch and iPhone devices.

If you want to wirelessly connect and use musical or networked devices in a simple and clean format, this is definitely an app to acquire today.
