The user can perform simple tasks, such as cropping or color adjustments, but they can also use the histogram, add special effects, and even insert text bubbles too.

Any images can also be emailed through the app, and new photos can be taken from it also. The Photogene app begins with a full menu of editorial functions that include cropping, sharpening, and auto or manual color corrections. There are also separate exposure and contrast buttons, saturation and hue adjustors, and straightening functions for tilted images.

The special effects possible through the app include conversion of a photo into a sepia image, a pencil drawing or even a heat map, and framing such as vignetting is available also. The photographer can even add custom speech bubbles with unique text, take a new photo through the app and also email a photo without exiting it as well.
