The Emergency Radio app provides listeners with access to the broadcasts from more than 1,500 emergency agencies around the United States. This means that a user of the app can have a mobile scanner device capable of tuning into fire departments, medical teams, and police departments in their local area, or even on the opposite coast.

The app provides access to all channels listed, though some do go offline, and also allows the individual access to nearby frequencies, and explanatory sections that detail the meanings of the various codes and descriptions used by members of emergency services. The Emergency Radio allows its users to create their list of favorites, and this is a great way for someone to stay in touch with the happenings in their town while they are on the road or away from home.

It also detects the nearby signals using the onboard GPS feature as well. If a code that is unrecognizable to the listener comes across the airwaves, they can also quickly look this up using the in-app glossary of all emergency and law enforcement codes as well. The Emergency Radio app uses a live streaming approach to delivering content, and some agencies may go offline which is out of the network’s control.

There are other emergency service and streaming radio apps, but the Emergency Radio app is one that offers an unprecedented amount of access to signals from around the entire country. It is designed for use in iPod Touch and iPhone devices.

The cost for the app is $2.99, and all updates to available stations are made free of charge.

When you need to know what is happening in a specific area this is a good app to download and rely upon.
