Are you interested in astronomy? Maybe you’d like to take a look at the International Space Station, Space Shuttle, or famous Hubble Telescope should it pass over your area? If so, the Satellite Visibility app is a good choice to download. It uses the onboard GPS to provide detailed charts and information about many satellites and objects that will pass overhead.

The Satellite Visibility app recognizes all objects registered at the heavens-above.com website, but will recommend only those that exceed a visible magnitude of 5.0 or higher. Once an app user has received their data, they will be able to view a range of different map styles to help them find it in the night sky.

Users will also receive a detailed list of everything that will be above their location, even if it does not meet the visible magnitude criteria, and get details about the item. When in the specific satellite or object page, the app user can select to view it in one of the various charts and get pinpoint timing of when it will appear and disappear from sight.

There are other apps geared at satellite or astronomical viewing, such as GoSatWatch or Astronomy, and the Satellite Visibility app is a good one to add for those hoping specifically to see any and all objects passing their location.

The app has been crafted to function specifically with iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

The cost for the Satellite Visibility app is $2.99, and a WiFi or 3G connection is required to download all requested pass data.

For anyone interested in the night sky, this app is one to download right away.
