iTap is yet another in the (increasingly long line) of "iPhone/Touch as mouse" app genre. At $199 it is inexpensive, works with multimple platforms including Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel & PPC), Mac OS X 10.5 (Intel & PPC) with support for Linux coming soon.

Installation is also fmailiar if you have used similar products. Once you download the iPhone app to your handheld and the 8mb receiver software to your desktop, the two are quickly paired.

The neat thing about iTap is its support for basic multi-touch mouse controls. As the developer notes,

Instead of forcing you to hit tiny buttons or scrolling areas with your fingers, iTap exploits the advanced multi-touch capabilities of the iPhone and iPod touch to provide the experience of a real touchpad.

iTap features include pointer movements, left and right clicks and dragging, both horizontal and vertical scrollingon Mac OS X as well as automatic detection of devices and autostart at log in.

Volume Control is planned soon, as well.

In all, iTap works well. I prefer Air Mouse but until it supports Mac OS X iTap is a good choice.

Quick Take

Value: High
Would I Buy Again:  Maybe. I prefer Air Mouse but Mac still isn;t supported.
Learning Curve: Low for set up, Medium for becoming comfortable with controlling the "mouse"
Who is it for:  Anyone thanks to multiple platforms support
What I like:  Works well, multitouch is neat
What I Don’t:   As with all similar products the slick glass of the screen doesn;t provide much resistance and makes accuracy an issue

Final Statement:
  Another cool mouse app.

Read the Developer's Notes:
iTap turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a WiFi-enabled touchpad for your Mac or your PC. Simply connect your iPhone or iPod touch to the same WiFi network as your PC, install our small receiver software from https://iphone.hlw.co.at, and you are ready to go.

In addition to pointing and clicking, iTap also emulates a scroll wheel -
place two fingers on the screen of your device, and scroll by swiping
horizontally or vertically. (Horizontal scrolling is currently only supported
with the Mac receiver software).

Since everyone has different preferences, iTap allows you to configure the
speed and acceleration settings for moving and scrolling.
