User Rating:While iTech is a good idea, I don’t really see it catching on. As the name states, it’s a repository for technology definitions and some troubleshooting for fairly common problems.
iTech has several problems with it. First off, it’s too general and vague. The concept of "technology" has become so big and widespread that it needs a plethora of sub-categories in order to define the actual problem. iTech doesn’t even separate PC problems from Mac problems.
Also, iTech has a big, free competitor called the Internet. Granted, some of iTech explains how to solve a problem when no Internet connection is available. On the plus side, all the information is kept on the device with updates occuring about once a week so unlike the Internet you don’t need a connection to read it.
The app is fundamentally for a tech support person who has to go around to various personal computers without an Internet connection available while trying to solve other people’s problems. This is a rare happenstance. Most tech support folk I know can solve these problems without the need of an iPhone or a program like this (in fact, very few I know own an iPhone).
I would like to emphasize that the app is a good idea, but it needs much more information and much better categorization. Perhaps the user should even be able to download certain tech support sections (like one for the iPhone) at will and leave the others out. Then everyone can have their own version of iTech.
