Horses. We all love ’em. In fact, I’ve never met anyone in my life who says they don’t like horses. As such, it’s a logical step to take to be able to run them, jump with them, lasso them, and do just about everything with them from the comfort of your iPhone or iPad.
Jumpy Horse is a game where you get to maintain your own herd of horses and interact with them through a whole host of joyful mini-games. These include throwing as many cowboys as you can off your back, running them through obstacle courses and generally having a gay old time with them.
Jumpy Horse has a minimal hand-drawn graphical style that suits the gentle nature of the game. While it’s hardly jaw-dropping, it’s very easy on the eyes. The gameplay on the iPhone can be a bit fiddly at times, and it’ll take you a little while to figure out that frantically tapping on your horse like a jockey on speed won’t get the most out of your horse. Once you get to grips with it though, it’s smooth riding.
There is a multiplayer mode in Jumpy Horse which lets you run obstacle courses with your friends via Wi-Fi or Game Center. What’s novel here is that you can create your own obstacle courses and compete on them with your friends, making it a highly customiseable experience.
Aside from the plethora of mini-games, there is a huge amount to customise in Jumpy Horse. There are plenty of different horses to choose from, varying from foals, to majestic stallions, and even wolves! All horses can also be repainted to your heart’s content, which may not appeal to animal rights activists sitting atop their high horses.
Jumpy Horse is probably the most varied and customiseable horsey game on the iPhone. While its gameplay can feel a little unrefined at times, the amount of things you can do with your equestrian friends should keep you engaged for a long while.
