User Rating:Ah, nostalgia. When I was a child (way back in time, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), I had an L.E.D. football game around the house. In an age before home gaming systems, it was responsible for hours of enjoyment in my youth.
The makers of L.E.D. Football realized this and created an app that simulates the experiences, thus fulfilling a need for older iPod touch and iPhone owners. I’m sure they’ll be making their own version of Pong soon (a game which likely already exists in the App Store).
L.E.D. Football is a good game for what it is. Obviously since it is simulating a game from 20 to 30 years ago, it does not have the graphics or motion that many of these new-fangled, whippersnapper games have.
However, one obvious thing it has missing is a "back" button. That is, a button that would allow your red dash character to move leftwards on the screen. It is very much a game deficiency when you cannot make the quarterback run in one of the four directions. This was resolved in the sequel game, L.E.D. Football 2, but it really should have been there from the get-go.
The game is landscape only, which is probably for the best as portrait would be somewhat difficult to look at. It doesn’t even have an options menu or volume control in an effort to truly simulate the hand-held game of the past. This game is definitely not for everyone, but it will give a nostalgic thrill to those of a certain age group, and I think that’s the point.
Quick Take
Value:High, provided you're a child of the 70's.
Would I Buy Again:For myself? Yes. Particularly for free.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Children of the 70's and retro enthusiasts.
What I Like:Accurately depicts the original game.
What I Don't Like:No "back" button. Landscape only.
Final Statement:If you're in your 30's or older, it's a touchdown. Otherwise, it's a foul.
