User Rating:iTunes is offering a free version of this old app that has been ported over from other video gaming systems such as the PS3. The full version is now $.99 (down from $5.99), which is ideal for the fan of either Lego or Batman.
It begins with a cyber-comic explaining the storyline. Apparently the Scarecrow has robbed the Gotham City Bank and is trying to escape in his bi-plane. There is more story and more levels with the full version. The light version is mostly an aerial dogfight that upon playing I admit I’m not entirely sure what’s going on.
The full version starts you out with the story line and then walks you through some training, the first of which is practicing handling the boomerang. Problem was, the game crashed twice on me during that trial, and required a restart of the iPhone to work again. The other trouble I had was figuring out how to move between screens, there are no clear directions and in general, the game is confusing. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to hit or shoot and what I’m supposed to avoid while flying. You can move the Batplane around by tilting the device and the plane does fire some offensive weaponry which I’m not sure how to control. Needless to say, I die a lot.
Another irritating aspect of the game is that when one dies at the end, there doesn’t seem to be a way to start a new game other than stopping and restarting it entirely. It’s quite annoying.
I am a fan of both Lego and Batman and yet I find it difficult to shell out $.99 for the full version. The graphics are excellent but the game is confusing. Despite this, I’m hoping more Lego games make it to the iPhone and iPod Touch in the near future.
Pros: Good graphics. It’s Batman!
Cons: Confusing game. Prone to crashing or freezing problems.
