Kids love iOS devices. In fact, the top 3 wished for gifts in the 2010 holiday season were iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and iPad. These devices, while they can be a lot of fun, should provide some educational value too. With the game Licking Letters, kids can both have fun and learn at the same time.
This game, intended for children ages 2 through 8, is a simple spelling game. A word is given, said, and then spelled out. Letters will then begin to travel across the screen. It is your child’s job to tap the screen whenever a desired letter crosses the screen, after which the frog will stick out his tongue and the letter will no longer be needed.
After each level, and in the exciting bonus levels, your child will earn Leapin’ Loot, a currency which can be used to buy clothes for the frog. There are a lot of clothes and any child will like buying them for Hoppy the Frog, no in-app purchases required.
One strange thing about the game: the word can be spelled in any order. If the word is “dot”, for example, the word can be spelled d-t-o or t-o-d. But I talked to the creators and I was told that the next update will include a choice for the player to be able to spell the words in order or keep it the way it is now.
Licking Letterst is the best kid’s game I have ever come across in the App Store (not that I know many of the others, but this one sets a very high standard). With the fun character, sounds, colors, and music, your child will not even realize how much he or she is learning.

Learning Curve:Low, there?s a great tutorial for the kids though.
Who Is It For:Any young child should have access to this game.
What I Like:The simple children?s gameplay, fun clothing items, and entertaining bonus levels.
What I Don't Like:Should have an option to require words be spelled in order (it will be included in the next update).
Final Statement:Any young kid is sure to have f-u-n with this educational game.
