User Rating:There are plenty of realistic race simulators for the iPhone, and they do a great job of emulating the thrill of racing on the iPhone. There are also plenty of Mario Kart style racers that bring alot of the fun of the nintendo classic to your hands. Lilracerz Pro Rally fits into a somewhat unrepresented section of racing games on the iPhone. The 16-bit console was full of top down racers and many of them became favorites for their unique driving mechanics, and fun arcade style action. Lilracerz Pro Rally embodies all that is good in those racers with alot of polish and style.
Lilracerz Pro Rally boasts seventeen tracks in a variety of environments including jungles and even snow, with a nice selection of both fast and technical tracks. The tracks are divided into cups, and are unlocked as you race and place in the previous tracks. As you race, you earn money that can be used to upgrade your car to improve speed and handling. Each car is limited as to how much you can upgrade so you must move on to better cars that start with better stats.
The controls are shaped like a gas petal and brake on the right with a left and right steer buttons on the left. Generally, the best way to manuever your racer is to tap the steering because oversteering is very easy to do and that would send you into a wall (or a spectator which makes such a mess). A slide of your thumb on the right activates your nitro boost which is critical for taking the lead on the outside of turns. The game offers a great AI that will bump and push aggressivly. Tracks offer some short cuts but deviating from the track too much can result in missing a way point which can ruin a good lead.
Lilracerz Pro Rally takes everything that is good about simple racing games, and packages it into a fast and exciting app. Not much can be said against this game which is currently sitting at $.99 with a free lite version. When it was first installed, I did have problems with it crashing, but a reinstall fixed the problem and Lilracerz Pro Rally has performed flawlessly since.
I would also like to see some multiplayer action with local wifi or perhaps even online. We talked to the Developer, and he states Apple’s gaming network will be included in the future. Lilracerz Pro Rally has proven that it can pack a ton of excitement into a "lil" package.
