User Rating:Photography is definitely an art form. It captures on split second of life, which can be very beautiful or mediocre. Well, in Limited Editions Online, I am glad to say that there are no mediocre photos.
The app is pretty simple: after opening the app, you are placed at the photo of the day. You can tap the ‘i’ in the upper-right to view information on the picture. You also have the option to buy the photo, share it by email, or save it to your camera roll. The photos are not exactly iPhone resolution, but they look nice as wallpaper nonetheless.
Besides the photo of the day, there is also a gallery of 15 photos, one of which is the photo of the day. Upon choosing one, you again have the options of buying, sharing, or saving. In addition to these options, there are left and right arrows to navigate without going back to the gallery each time. There is also the ability to simply swipe left or right to navigate. Unfortunately, while the photos do look very nice, each photo in the gallery loads very slowly. Hopefully this can be improved upon.
The photos, again, do look nice but I believe that the app itself could be improved. The design is different, but not necessarily in a good way. Also the photos in the gallery are labeled as ‘Image 1’ through ‘Image 15’. This is unnecessary as the photos are not described or titled in any way and this labeling is not necessary to the app. The photos are laid out in thumbnails which is enough description in itself.
Yes, the photography is great and I do like the option to save the photos as wallpaper, but really this app lacks content as well as important things like image downloading speed. The app in its current state might as well be a web app. It currently holds nothing over Flickr or a wallpaper app with much more content. Still, the photography is great and the app, as it is fairly new, needs time to grow.
Quick Take
Value:Medium.
Would I Buy Again:In its current state, probably not. I'll have to see what the updates bring.
Learning Curve:Low.
Who Is It For:Those who like beautiful pictures or frequently change wallpapers.
What I Like:The photography and the simple app.
What I Don't Like:15 photos is not nearly enough content. Looking at the thumbnails I feel like I've already seen everything.
Final Statement:What this photography app lacks is a sufficient amount of photos.
