User Rating:It takes something to market a unique concept for the App Store, given the sheer volume of apps available. Lucky Billiken definitely has that something. I’m just not sure what it is yet.
Billiken is a statue created in 1908 by an American artist. The idea is that if you rub his feet, you will get good fortune. No, not the belly. That’s Buddha. His feet. His dirty, smelly, oversized feet. You have already lost a few points there, Billiken.
But wait, there’s more. The app also teaches you reflexology (or pressure) points in the feet to improve certain areas of the body and make you healthier. Basically, the app is teaching you how to give a foot message. I’ll give it points for usefulness in that regard. I’m not sure I would buy that a nerve in the foot gives relaxation to the Pituitary Gland, but I’ll try to keep an open mind about it.
In short, the app teaches you how to give a good foot massage by rubbing the Billiken’s feet, which is also supposed to be good luck. And you’re scored on it. I got a "Not Bad". If you make his feet twitch you get a "Super Lucky" score.
I can’t say that I particularly recommend this app. I’m not against it, but it’s really more Zen than anything. I’d rather just get an app that teaches how to give a decent foot massage from a biological standpoint and leaves the Zen to the Buddhists.
