User Rating:There was already a lightsaber app, so you knew this one was coming for the Harry Potter fans. Next up will be a virtual One Ring that you can keep on the iPhone (not that I’m aware of any being developed, but it wouldn’t surprise me).
As an app, truthfully there isn’t much to it. On the initial screen, the user has a choice of two magic wands and taps one to select it. Each one creates different types of lightning and different sound effects depending on how you’re holding the device and which way you wave it. One of them even does a cool "human eye" effect which I presume is for clairvoyance or some such nonsense.
And that’s it. That’s all the app does. It’s nice for kids, I suppose, but it’s a bit silly to hold an iPod Touch or iPhone like a magic wand.
Here are some things the creators can do to make this a more impressive app: 1. More choice of wands. 2. More special effects, perhaps even a list of the types of spells each lightning and sound signify. 3. Go back to a screen to choose another wand rather than restart the app. 4. Lots more stuff.
While the app is only $.99, I can’t really put it on my "buy" list as it really doesn’t do much and the thrill of owning a "magic wand" fades pretty quickly. I’ll give this one a pass.
Pros: Nice graphics and effects.
Cons: Doesn’t do much.
