If you loved playing Mancala as a kid, you’ll be happy to know it is now available for your iPhone. FlipSide5, Inc. developed an App called Mancala: FS5 and it’s available in the APP store.
Download Mancala: FS5 from the App Store and get started – it’s very easy to customize. From the main screen, choose which type of game you want to play – 1 Player (playing against the computer), 2 Players (playing against your friend on your iPhone), Nearby (playing on your personal network), Online (playing on the Internet) or AIM. Next, click on the Settings button to choose the settings for that game type.
To play on the Internet, click Online then click the settings button. You can use the default name of Internet Player or choose a new interesting name. The other two options are preset – the First Available Internet Opponent will be found for you to play and the person who Starts will switch for at the start of each game.
Once you’ve chosen your name, click Done to get the main screen and you’re ready to go. You’ll be presented with the usual Mancala Board which has six pits for each opponent (located at the bottom and top of the screen) and a store located at the right and left sides. Each pit has 4 marbles (referred to as seeds). Your pits are always located at the bottom of the screen with your store on the right side. A brown ball next to one of the player‘s names will indicate who goes first.
The objective of the game is to have the most seeds in your store at the end of the game. To move your seeds, simply touch one of the pits and the seeds will move in the proper sequence around the board. You need to first familiarize yourself with the rules so you can come up with a strategy. Mancala: FS5 is a game of wits – it requires thinking and preplanning in order to beat your opponent.
Mancala: FS5 provides you an option to play against the computer with three various levels of complexity (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and the option to use a different number of seeds. This is a good way to learn the game and come up with a strategy so you can beat your opponent on the Internet.
Mancala: FS5 allows you to use a Chat button, while playing, to send pre-customized standard instant messages to your opponent such as Hello, Good luck, Good game as well as funny ones such as “Why go on? Let me lie here…”. etc. It also allows you to invite friends to play with Push Notifications. The graphics are amazing and the game is very realistic. I’ve been playing for quite some time and continue to be amazed at how well the game was developed.
Mancala: FS5 is free in the App store. It’s a good starter game but I prefer the $1.99 version since you won’t be interrupted by ads in between games. Get it today!
