User Rating:I managed to pick up this game for free during one of those "free app a day" promotions, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
The premise is simple. You’re a marine sharpshooter and you have to take down enemy soldiers. You can control the direction of the crosshairs using your iPhone or iPod touch’s natural tilt and there is a trigger button in the lower right corner to fire. You can also be shot at and if they hit you enough times, game over.
The game comes in "story mode", which gives you a reason to shoot virtual people, or "arcade mode" which just lets you shoot. Each comes with two missions: Original and Black Ops. The Original game comes with the initial purchase but the Black Ops version costs extra (one of those in-game purchases that Apple allows for nowadays). The fundamental difference that I can see is that Black Ops takes place using night-vision goggles.
The game is decent if not great. Graphics and animation are decent. There are certainly enough shooting games in the App Store. This particularly one requires really good control over the tilt of the device. The only options available in the game is to turn on and off the sound effects and music.
This game is strictly middle-of-the-road for me. It’s good but not great. But that just could be the cynicism that comes with old age, and playing too much of these sorts of games. I leave it to you.
