Aiding or designed to aid the memory.
Starting my review with a dictionary definition of a ‘big word’ may seem a bit pompous considering I’m not writing a thesis on the human mind. But bear with me, for the title of the app I’m reviewing is a play on the defined word, and a fitting one too, as Memonic is a notepad app designed to help you remember things.
While a note-taking app is not exactly world-changing, Memonic has several features that make it stand out from the crowd. In terms of organising your notes, this app allows you to create tags, groups and folders, which should be enough to satisfy the most pedantic of note-takers. You can also take photos within the app, and you can either give the pictures titles and use them as visual notes, or take pics to accompany your written notes. Who would’ve thought note-taking could be so elaborate?
The best feature with this app is the ability to sync it with your computer and e-mail address. If you have an internet connection as you type up your notes, you can set the app to automatically e-mail you your note and sync it with the computer version (which you need to download separately). As with every self-respecting app, you can share your notes via twitter and facebook.
The cross-platform functionality really extends Memonic‘s value, as the computer version has web functionality, allowing you to cut valuable information from websites, save it to Memonic, which in turn sends the cuttings to your iPhone; particularly useful if you’re pressed for time and want to review your notes on the go.
In a world full of functional but basic note-taking apps, Memonic reigns supreme by allowing for a huge amount of customisation and the option to sync your notes between your iPhone, iPad and computer. The interface is purely functional, with its only ‘aesthetic’ feature being a cork-board background, which only points back to the app’s functionality as a glorified notice board. Pretty clever, eh?
