Pretty soon I’ll be taking a vacation to Las Vegas and it’s apps like Metal Poker that will certainly give me the mad skills to win at the Poker table. Well, maybe not but it’s a fun way to practice.
The game allows you to play one of seven different types of Poker at a table with five other virtual players. One possible improvement to the game would be to customize the opponents. It would be fun to play poker against a zombie or space alien. For now, the game is stuck with players like Kate and Vito.
You can also select how much money you have to play with in the settings, either $50, $100 or $200. This limited choice doesn’t make sense to me. Why not allow the user to input any amount within a reasonable limit (say $999)? Perhaps it’s in an effort to simulate an actual table poker game as closely as possible.
Of course, this is different than traditional video poker games (such as the type found in casinos) because you see the cards of your opposition as well. You can even see if the opposition is in thinking mode or whether they call, raise or fold. If you should fold, you can still see how the rest of the hand plays out between everyone else.
Metal Poker is a nice variation of the traditional poker game. It just needs a few tweaks, such as more customization and the ability to play other folks online.
Pros: Good interface. Easy to play.
Cons: Could use more customization. Would be a better experience if it allowed for live play with other participants online.
