User Rating:Have you ever noticed that the simplest and most familiar games in the App Store also tend to be the most expensive? Tetris is five bucks! Solitaire is a buck, so that’s okay. Minesweeper…
Minesweeper came with every installation of Windows 3.1 way back when and I remember playing it back then. I got pretty good at it too. Now, a version of the game is available in iTunes for the low, low price of $.99, which is what Tetris should cost, in my opinion.
This version works much the same as the Windows 3.1 version, except they use a different color scheme and a slightly different way of marking mines involving dragging a "mines" sign. I suppose it keeps the attack lawyers back in their pens.
It is possible to change the setting to easy, medium or hard. The effect of the mine blowing up is much better than Windows 3.1 as well.
The rules are pretty simple. You tap a mound to determine if a mine exists there. If it doesn’t, the section you tap clears it and any surrounding mound that doesn’t have a mine. If it does, the mine blows up. Another possibility is that you’re shown a number under the mound which is the total number of mines in the surrounding nine squares. Then you have to do some math to find them and mark them with a flag to be disarmed.
I like Minesweeper, and this game is as good a version of it as any I’ve seen. Well worth the buck.
