One clear sign of Apple’s intention to increasingly promote the iPhone as a professional device was the highlighting of not one but two medical applications at the iPhone SDK Roadmap even in March 2008. A series of applications from Modality which are intended to help medical students learn was one of the two (the other being MimVista’s Medical imaging application).

The applications will serve as next generation, electronic flash cards. The applications will employ the Netter Collection of anatomy photos to help students master all the regions of the body. Users will be able to scan all of the parts of the body with map-style pins that will highlight what they are seeing. The applications will also offer a "quiz-mode" with questions based on the parts they see. Users will be able to navigate through images, zoom in on areas using multitouch and test their knowledge of muscles, bones, vessels, viscera and the joints using the study mode.

In addition, students will be able to

• Adding and remove images.

• Explore detailed illustrations with or without annotation.

• Store content directly on the iPhone for access at anytime

• Get more information through Wikipedia

Modality plans to have a dozen applications available within weeks of App Store launch.
