User Rating:I’m a sucker for information about what’s happening "inside" my phone and maybe that’s why I’m obsessed with apps that tell me what’s going on in my iphone. After trying BatteryLife, I figured I’d give the (currently more popular) myBatteryLife a test drive.
In essence the 2 apps are extremely similar. Both have a graphic of a battery filled to the ‘percent’ of charge left. Both have the battery status in increments of 5%–the developer of myBatteryLife says this is because that’s a limit of the iPhone API.
What makes myBatteryLife a bit more useful is that it estimates how much time you have for using the internet, using the phone, watching video, and listening to audio.
Since it’s impossible to get an accurate estimate, as very often I’m doing several of those things at once, I’m not sure how acurate this might be for me. For example, listening to Pandora, or my email automatically downloading while I’m watching a video., or even, running an app while I get I a phone call. But it is nice to have an idea of how much time you have. I doubt I’d ever really get 20 hours of audio playback time on my phone, but it gives me enough of an estimate to at least let me leave a little juice for that all important app. You know the one, its the reason I bought a phone in the first place…
Calling.
Quick Take
Value: Medium
Would I Buy Again: Only if I knew it was going to be a long time between charges
Learning Curve: None!
Who Is It For: People that want to get an idea of how long they have until their battery runs out
What I Like: The estimates are nice
What I Don’t: It’s nice to see all this data–but I can get a ‘feel’ for my battery by just looking in the top right corner.
Final Statement: This is a handy app albeit a niche app. The estimates give you a better idea of how long you have, but it is only an estimate so don’t be the farm on your battery life.
"myBatteryLife" displays the current percentage of battery life left on your iPhone or iPod Touch. With a large percentage and visual indicator you can quickly your remaining time. "myBatteryLife" will determine your hardware to calculate a the remaining hours and minutes for different uses.
It displays the hours and minutes remaining of:
-Phone Time
-Internet on Edge or 3G
-Internet on Wifi
-Video Playback
-Audio Playback
Thank you for all your feedback! I take a look at all emails and reviews and will incorporate any fix/feature possible.
Features for upcoming versions include:
-Log book with time stamp and battery life to show which applications are draining your battery
-Standby Time Left
-Gaming Time Left
*Note: Due to the limitations of the iPhone Software, this application only updates every 5% of the battery life. Any application that updates more often than this is certainly not accurate.
