User Rating:You’d think anybody who enjoys a high-tech gadget like the iPhone or iPod Touch would enjoy reading news developments about the space program. NASA knew this, and so the free NASA app for the iPhone was born.
The app is a synopsis of all the large projects that NASA is working on, including the International Space Station and the attempt to set up a permanent research facility on Earth’s moon. The main page brings us to the listing of the actual missions. Tapping on each mission brings up a mission description as well as the countdown time until the next schedule launch. With each mission comes news updates and a set of associated pictures and video. You can even e-mail the mission description to a friend.
The layout of the app is very well done and the computer images used to represent each mission are breathtaking. It makes me think NASA has some money to burn. I can only wonder if one of the myriad of engineers in their employ threw together this app in ten minutes because he/she had time to kill. They’re pretty smart there.
For those with an iPod Touch, a WiFi connection is necessary in order to view most of the app. Those with an iPhone may want to use WiFi as well for a better signal.
The NASA app reminds us that the organization is still there and still doing good work.
