User Rating:There are certain games from every boardwalk that are immortal. One is Skeeball. Another is the basketball game where you try and shoot as many balls in the hoops as the time limit allows. With regards to the latter, the makers of the iPhone/iPod touch version of Skeeball have wisely partnered with the NBA to create a virtual hoops shooter that’s pretty darn fun.
I’m sure there are plenty of basketball applications out there. One wonders why a partnership with the NBA is needed, except that the NBA is fairly synonymous with the sports and having their name on the product guarantees sales. The $.99 price point doesn’t hurt either.
The graphics and animation are excellent, the equal to their Skeeball game. There are two game options: "classic play" and "three strikes". "Classic play" gives a time limit while "three strikes" has no time limit and simply ends the game when the player has missed the basket three times. As with Skeeball, one can win virtual prizes for high scores. The game also has a multiplayer mode via Bluetooth with people nearby so you can have competitive play.
One minor complaint I have about the game is the inability to play your device’s audio library in the background. The feature is so common nowadays it becomes somewhat depressing to see it not included in a game.
All that aside, the game is easy to learn, easy to use and is among the most affordable in the App Store. Basketball fans of any level would be remiss to not pick this one up.
