As a comic book fan, I am thrilled when an app comes into the App Store to help my hobby flourish. I’m even more thrilled that the New York Comic Con has finally followed in the footsteps of the San Diego Comic Con and released its own iPhone app.
The app is free of course (it’s intended as promotion for the actual event) and requires a data or WiFi connection. The app is somewhat cool in that it aggregates a myriad of websites for information about the Comic Con and its sister conventions run by the same company (such as the NY Anime Convention and Chicago’s C2E2).
There is a ton of information on this app. They have tweets from both convention officials and people that simply mention the NYCC. They also have an official news feed and a "buzz" section about comics and anime in general. It keeps other sites within the application so there is none of that annoying app-closing-to-open-the-browser going on.
A guest list is also provided and a directory of websites relating to all the conventions (including Facebook and MySpace). The most stuff is available in the "More" section. There is an overview of the NYCC history as well as information and the ability to purchase tickets. There are photos and videos of previous NYCCs and a fan wall where anybody can leave a comment. You can even filter by commenters that are near you. It’s even possible to log into the app with your Facebook or Twitter account.
Overall, this is a very well done app if you are a fan of the NYCC and don’t want to keep checking the website (and the price can’t be beat). The only thing I would add is push alerts for news regarding the Con. If that feature is there, I didn’t find it. Otherwise, this is a great app if your interest lies in Comics.

It features exclusive and extensive anime screenings, guests from America and Japan, manga, cosplay, video games, live-action Japanese cinema, fashion, food, and the cultural treasures that gave birth to Japanese pop culture.
