Ever since George Romero first postulated the zombie apocalypse scenario, people have been using it in all forms of media (including video games) and trying to find a unique spin on it. In this case, the creators opted for an urban setting while blowing away zombies with a shotgun.
Honestly, there is nothing in the background or cityscape to indicate that it is taking place in New York. It starts simply in an apartment, an average city street, highway, subways, even rural farms. It could have been called "Zombies USA" without changing a thing.
Graphics and animation are very good. You’re holed up in a location trying to overcome a horde of zombies armed only with a gun (more weapons can be purchased as you progress further up the game levels). If they get too close and start chomping away, you’re dead meat. You scroll your finger around to move your gun’s site and tap on the lower right to fire.
I do like the fact that there are a lot of weapons that you could use throughout the game to destroy the zombies and the fact that there are a wide variety of zombies including 10 foot tall ones, ones with tumors, etc.
Options for the game including switching between left and right-handers, turning the sound and music on or off, and (my favorite feature) playing your iPod music in the background.
I’ve played other zombie shooters that have more functionality, but this one is pretty good since it has a lot of variety in screens, weapons, and zombie types. If your into zombie killer games, this one has enough variety to keep you playing for a while. You’ll have to decide if it’s worth $3.
