As a father of a 2 year old, I know what short attention spans (and tantrums) babies can have.

I’ve tried many (and varied) applications that are geared towards “preschoolers”, but very few that my two year old could enjoy. Occupy Baby is just that though—somewhere between a “busy box” and a Baby Einstein.

Currently there is only one “Scene” in the app, but the developer has told me that 2 more are going to be coming in future updates.  The scene right now is a farm, which is perfect for my son who thinks Old MacDonald is the best thing since sliced bread.

In the farm scene you can touch many things. Touching an animal, zooms in on it slightly and says the animal name (along with the spelling of the animal above it). Touching windmills make them spin, touching the barn opens and closes the doors. Because the scene is so big, you can swipe back and forth from one side to the other.

Even though my son has a short attention span, I was surprised that he spent 10 minutes with this. (Normal for him is about 2 minutes.) And while I was surprised and elated to see him enjoy something so much, I was more surprised when I came home later that night and he started shouting ‘E-I-E-I-O’ and grabbed my pockets looking for the phone. He spent another 20 minutes playing the game! He also (inadvertently) learned how to swipe across the screen, exit the program and start it up. As a parent, I can’t help but remark on how smart my son is for picking this up so quickly and on his own. But I’m sure that the charm and fun he had with Occupy Baby had a lot to do with it.

Quick Take

Value: High

Would I Buy Again:  Yes!

Learning Curve:  So easy, a 2 year old could figure it out–LITERALLY!

Who Is It For: Babies (and parents that need to entertain  them)

What I Like:  Anything that can engange and "edutain" my child is a plus!

What I Don’t: Only one scene–but more are coming!

Final Statement:  The fact that my son was so engaged, so entertained, and actually started to "learn" how to use the phone becaue of this app gives it big ratings.  If you have a toddler (or smaller) you’ll want to check out this app!
