User Rating:Paradudes Pro is the paid version of Paradudes, the main difference between the two being that the latter displays ads at the bottom of its game screen while the former doesn’t, thus having a slightly bigger real estate to play the game on. All other elements of gameplay are the same across both versions.
In Paradudes, either on the free or paid version, you are involved in saving an infinite number of "dudes" from free-falling to their deaths by making sure that each of them has his parachute open before he reaches the bottom of the game screen. You do this by simply tapping on a parachute-less dude. Most of the dudes that appear from the top of the play area are initially without parachutes, but there are several who are already well equipped, so you must also see to it that you don’t tap on a dude that already has an open parachute or he will be rid of his lifesaver. But if you do mistakenly tap on a dude that already has an open parachute, just tap on him again before he reaches the bottom to make him feel safe again.
Every time you open a parachute for a dude, that dude ejects either a gold coin, a death coin, or a heart, which you must either tap or ignore, depending on what the item implies. The gold coin increases your score while the death coin, as its name suggests, takes away one of your game lives (which are set to three lives at the start of every game) and therefore must not be tapped. The heart rewards you with an extra life. You lose a life, by the way, every time a parachute-less dude reaches the bottom.
Several other items that serve as score-uppers when tapped appear every now and then, including birds, balloons, and spacecrafts. The game appears to have a online leaderboard that tells you how well you rank against other players around the globe, but OpenFeint or Agon integration would have been a better choice for this feature.
At just $0.99, Paradudes Pro is a nicely designed ad-free, one-handed pick-up-and-play game, with gameplay that becomes more and more frantic the longer you are in a game as the dudes’ speed of free fall become faster. But if you don’t mind playing with a little block of advertisement, which you are likely to accidentally tap as you save a dude near the bottom of the screen, then the free version of Paradudes will suffice.
Quick Take
Value:Low.
Would I Buy Again:There's not much of a difference between the free and paid version, so I'd probably just get the former.
Learning Curve:None. Just tap responsibly on the dudes.
Who Is It For:People who enjoy one-handed pick-up-and-play tapping games.
What I Like:The cubism-inspired appearance of the dudes. Panic-inducing speed of falling later on in the game.
What I Don't Like:Not much of an upgrade from the free version. Just a simple leaderboard.
Final Statement:If you hate ads getting in the way of your game, then update your Paradudes with Paradudes Pro, dude.
