User Rating: I was not totally sure what to expect when I was downloading this app. As I age and mature in my iPhone habits I have began to venture away from apps that have no productivity value. My list of games has shrunk as well as my list of "show off what my iphone can do" apps. With that in mind, the main function of this app is to creatively show off what the iPhone can do and the folks at Tiny Wonder have done this beautifully.
The app is basically a graphical spirograph which can be manipulated through various touch gestures. An interactive kaliedoscope if you will. Pixi reminds me of the spirograph toy that we (over 30 at least) all played with as kids. Only without the gears, paper, and pens. The app starts you with a basic shape. You then use one, two, or three fingers to begin creating your art. The gallery allows you to view some incredible designs with the option to interact with them to make them your own. If you are unsure in the begining, the included help feature will walk you through the process of becoming an iPhone graphical artist.
While creating your art you are able to use up to three fingers to touch and change the design. Shapes are also changed with pinch and spread gestures. All of the actions are also dependent on what point on the design you execute them. Other changes are made in the menu which is opened by tapping the bottom center of the screen. There are six different modes which change your creation in various ways. This allows endless possibilities and prevents the creation of identical designs. You also have the option to save and upload to the gallery.
Quick Take:
Value: I think would do better at the $.99 pricepoint.
Would I buy again? If I were searching for an entertainment application I would buy this app again.
Learning Curve: Very little.
Who is it for? Anyone who wants to be creative with their iPhone.
What I like: Visually appealing. Easy to use. Great help section. Very nicely developed.
What I don’t: Longevity. These types of apps are not my thing so I would not use it over and over.
Final Statement: Even though I do not seek apps like this any longer, I am keeping Pixi on my phone. The developers have put together a very creative and beautiful application. This really feels like a complete app. The help section is put together with thought and care and all of the options are easy to use and useful. If you are feeling creative pick this one up!
