Popular science is a great mag for people who want to stay on top of current and interesting science without having in dept knowledge on (many of) the subjects. Whether you are interested in flying cars, robots, 3D gaming; everything you love will be found in it’s next generation form on the pages of this magazine. And now there is an iPad version. And they did a great job!

The iPad version is fast, glossy, has great and easy controls (which are actually explained to you in a clear way on the second page) and amazing graphics. They really made the magazine fit the iPad like a glove. The content is graphical, the fonts are clear. There is just enough information to satisfy your curiosity without boring you and the scrolling mechanism is excellent.

Some of the articles have very nice cut outs in the graphics which fit nicely over other graphics which give an extra dimension while your reading articles and makes it more fun than the paper version. Most articles have zoomed images on the second page and some even have a lot of different pages with more (usually graphical) information about the subject.

There are ads in the magazine, but they are not a hinder. Some of them are actually quite nice with videos included which I sit and watch anyway. This brings me to the only negatives I could find; although there was a fantastic animation of building a robot ‘monster’ in the Januari 2011 issue, I found the usuage of media quite thin. Too little videos and animations for my taste. I would expect really quite a lot of video to go with the stories; even interviews with inventors and such.

Besides that I thought it was great experience and will surely use this every month!
