User Rating:Postman is a good idea. It takes advantage of all the various capabilties of the iPhone and a good chunk of those found on the iPod Touch (particularly once a version of that is released with a built-in camera).
Simply put, Postman creates a virtual postcard to send to friends on either e-mail, Facebook, Twitter or just a server upload. It’s ideal for traveling, since the user can snap a local picture with his/her iPhone to use as the postcard photo.
The postcard is incredibly customizable as are most things digital. For the "front" of the card, you can choose a picture from a built-in set of famous landmark photos, any photo from the Photo Library or choose a map of your current location (although it would be a better app if it somehow integrated with Google Maps to give a street view of the current address). You can also superimpose text on the picture. The text of the actual letter goes on the "back".
The font color, text and size is customizable on both the front and back. The local weather is seen as a stamp on the virtual postcard and can be changed by the user. The front or back can be disabled entirely if you just want to send a letter with no photo or vice-versa.
If you choose to send the postcard as an e-mail, it is converted to an image (png format) and attached. As a note to the developers for future releases, when you send from an iPod Touch, the program still thinks it is sent from an iPhone. You may want to fix that.
The app is well worth the $.99 price, particularly if you’re a frequent traveler. Recommended.
Pros: Good interface. Well executed. Simple to use.
Cons: Could use more integration with Google Maps. The app should be aware if its sending from an iPod Touch.
