We all know the hard truth: the native iPhone Camera app sucks. It’s handy for a quick shot, but when you want to get creative you need a good app. Like PowerCam™ by Wondershare. And did you know it is free? No? Well, I just told you: now just go and download it. I’ll wait with the review for when you come back.

PowerCam™ has just been upgraded, getting a bunch of new features to rock old and new users alike. Among them,

• In- app purchases (panorama, more effects, camera-roll processing, auto-enhancement, video pause)
• Color Splash with color removal
• Even more collage templates
• Circle focus in tilt shift (woot!)
• Added support for Instagram sharing (among others)
• Simply tap the screen to capture an image
• A new and enhanced user interface.

As you can see, PowerCam™ has many awesome features. All may appeal you, some may appeal only some users. In any case, all are impressive. I like specially the tilt-shift effect. It can take a boring landscape and add a punch to it. Basically it re-focus an area (linear or circle) and moves the rest to out-of-focus. It’s hard to explain what it is, but just take a look at the screenshots below, they speak by themselves. Another handy effect is color splash, highlighting one color in a picture, turning the rest to black-and-white.

Other effects include the vintage and retro effects we have come to love from “other” picture editing apps. But the killer feature is that the effects come in real-time even to video recorded . In real-time!! PowerCam™ has more than 60 effects, to check them all you’ll have to download the app. But well, you should have done this when I told you so!

PowerCam™ has also in-app purchases, offering panorama pictures, auto-enhancement of pictures and the ability to edit pictures straight from the camera roll – just in case you have older pictures, since as soon you have PowerCam™ you won’t use any other app to take pictures or video.

In short: PowerCam™ is an awesome photo app, and even better, it is free.
