I liked Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as a novel so when I learned about the app, I immediately downloaded it.  To its credit, the app goes to great pains to emulate the feel of the novel and that’s its biggest flaw.

In a series of rather long scenes, it duplicates the characters, situations and dialogue from the novel before it gets to the action scenes.  The process is drawn out and rather boring.  The good news is that you can skip past this part if so desired, but even when you do there are segments played out.  Skipping past everything becomes a lot of effort to get to the fight scenes.

However, the fight scenes are pretty cool.  By moving your finger on the screen in a variety of directions, you can make Elizabeth Bennet slaughter zombies in a variety of ways.  As you defeat all the zombies in each "chapter," you progress to the next one.

The game itself uses fairly retro graphics and animation.  I’d be more impressed if you could fight the zombies in 3D.  The options are also fairly simplistic.  You can turn on and off the sound (not even an internal volume control) and make the controls right-handed.

On the whole, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies seems a missed opportunity to make a great game.  Including a digital copy of the novel rather than the method they chose might have helped it become better.  They seemed to settle with a okay game having a great name.  Hopefully they can make up for it with the app release of the prequel Dawn of the Dreadfuls.

Quick Take

Value:Medium-High.

Would I Buy Again:Possibly, but only because I liked the novel.

Learning Curve:Low. The game painfully teaches you the steps.

Who Is It For:Zombie Literature enthusiasts.

What I Like:Nice concept.

What I Don't Like:Poor execution. Too long to get to the fight scenes.

Final Statement:If this game took any longer to play, I'd be the one who is undead.
