In the App Store, there are two kinds of get-things-done apps: pretty and powerful. ProReminder is a GTD app that definitely belongs to the second category as it is powerful, but not the prettiest app.

In this app, you can create a task by simply pressing the plus sign in the top-right corner of your screen. When creating the task, you can change the task name, set a do-by time and date (up to an exact minute), and set a repeat pattern if an event happens on a regular schedule.

If you setup a task and do not complete the task by your specified time, you will receive a notification every minute until you finish it. Every single minute. For some, this nagging may work. For me, it would probably just make me delete the task to avoid the notification (and I would later forget about the task). It would be much better if these notifications were customizable and occurred every five or ten minutes, but they occur every minute. You can, however, choose to not assign a missed reminder to an event, but if you do this for every event then why buy ProReminder over another GTD app?

Another weird thing about the app is the fact that after a task is completed, it is stored in a Done List. I guess this is so that you can see how productive you have recently been. I found the Done List unnecessary though.

I did like other features of the app, like the ability to change the reminder tones and the ability to associate tasks with contacts and phone numbers. There is also the ability to prewrite an email in the app and save tasks to Apple’s Calendar app.

This is a unique app. It’s more of a reminder app than other passive GTD apps are. But will the reminder feature make you more productive, or just annoy you?

Quick Take

Value:Medium-high.

Would I Buy Again:I guess so.

Learning Curve:Medium for a GTD app. (There is a help PDF and YouTube videos are available the app?s settings.)

Who Is It For:Those who would benefit with constant reminders in a GTD app.

What I Like:The app shows a lot of promise and could be much better with customizable reminders.

What I Don't Like:One reminder per minute is very annoying. The Done List is strange.

Final Statement:Remind me to check out ProReminder at a later time.

Read the Developer's Notes:
ProReminder is a simple and yet professional iPhone and iPod Touch task reminder. With ProReminder, you can set a contact to a task for calling him/her later. You can also add an e-mail to send to someone.

Setting task location is very easy and you can later arrange your tasks according to your current location. Snoozing a task cannot be any better with different settings of snooze and local notification (alarms are delivered even if the application is not running in background).

New in version 1.1 supports:

New Features:

? You can now add Email body to send it when alarm goes off (not automatic).

? You can add a separate contact to send an SMS. Same with Email, you can write down the SMS body.

? Remove Contact or Email.

? Options to reset All warnings and settings.

? Create and restore backup. (Manually and Automatically).

? Pull down to show/hide task control bar for all tasks. (you'll love it!)

? Added badge settings: Snoozing tasks, Attention Tasks, and All and Done Tasks.

? Now, you can arrange tasks by snooze date.

? Custom Snooze now includes Snooze Period (select any custom snooze period like 2 hours 43 mins or 9 hours 2 mins) and Snooze Date.
