The thing about Rat On The Run is that you’ve seen it before with Super Mario Brothers or perhaps the recently-released South Park Mega Millionaire game (which at least had the benefit of a fair sophisticated background story and some clever written dialogue between the boys and the Japanese game show host). In this case, you’re a rat running around a maze avoiding traps and trying to grab as much cheese as you can.
You can play the game in three ways: Challenges, in which you simply get the cheese on each level. Arcade Play, in which you compete for high score. And finally, a bonus level which seems a game unto itself.
As of this writing, the app is being offered for free in the app store but it may return to $.99 cents by the time you read this. It’s a pretty low price for an app of this quality and might be worth it if you have a tween child whom you need to occupy while on the road with a harmless game.
The app also comes with a cute "bonus" game, which is a variation on the theme. This time the rat is on a scooter and collecting cheese doodles. If you’re going to be a rat, it’s better to be a rat on a scooter.
The game is cute and 66% cheaper than the similar South Park game. I was sort of underwhelmed, but if you like these sorts of games where you travel around a maze collecting prizes, then this could be the one for you.
