Currently, Resident Evil is the definitive zombie-shooter franchise of the gaming world, even spawning a couple of movies.
The app is considered a portable version of Resident Evil 4, arguably the best game of the franchise thus far. Fortunately, there is a menu option of reading the plot synopses of the first three Resident Evil games so you don’t get lost. In short, an evil corporation created a virus that turns people into zombies and you’re the hero that has to rescue the President’s daughter from all this.
The game is a very good introduction to the Resident Evil franchise. Like its gaming console counterparts, the app has incredible sound, graphics and animation. Even better, it actually follows the story fairly well. Granted, there is only text dialogue and nothing spoken, but how big do you want this file to be? I’d rather have the graphics.
The game can be played in several different modes. I choose beginner which allows for auto-aiming of the main character’s firearm (a significant time-saver). In addition to killing, you also have to solve puzzles and figure out where the President’s daughter is being held along the way. When you are in proximity of certain items, the game lets you tap a control to use those items (such as a ladder or picking up bullets).
The game also has some useful movement controls. You can spin your character around 180° if you need to quickly turn around to kill some enemies. You can also change your targeting from the direction you are moving to letting you control the aim left/right/up/down. In addition, you can also flick the joystick to move yourself quickly a few steps in any direction you flick (great for quickly getting out of the way). These easy to use gestures make the game much easier to control than just using a joystick to move yourself around.
You move through the game and pick up various items including cash, first aid sprays, and guns. You also get the ability to buy guns from your local "merchants", they exist throughout the various levels and in addition to guns can upgrade your fire power, shell capacity, and reload speed.
The game also has a very useful map of each area which shows all of the open/locked doors. This helps a great deal in getting through the 12 levels with ease and reduces the confusion of which way to go.
Gameplay is smooth, and consistent with the franchise quality of Resident Evil. The only interesting thing we noticed was that there was hardly any blood when your doing your killing.
Overall, the game is fun and not terribly hard to figure out. I really can’t think of any way to improve this game. If you like it, perhaps you’ll want to try the full-scale version for other consoles.

Final Statement:Resident Evil is a must-have for that teen boy that owns an iPod touch or iPhone.
