User Rating:Retro Netflix is the first of the Netflix applications we will be looking at this week. From a graphic perspective it… leaves a great deal to be desired. It’s simply uninteresting. Yes, it does the job, but it does so in the most uninteresting way possible.
As with all of these Netflix applications the first step is to link the application to your Netflix account. That was quick, simple, and was done in no time at all.
The first screen offers you a number of options — there you can find out what movies you have at home currently, what movies are currently available from your queue, and you can search the Netflix lbrary, as well. The search feature works well and allows you to search by title, rating, genre, or year. It does have a nice benefit of providing options for how you add new movies to your queue. You can add movies to the top of your queue, to the bottom of your queue, or to a staging area where you can search them later and decide what to do with them.
And that, dear friends, is the extent of the application. Seriously. That’s it. It works. It gets the job done. It lets you see what movies you currently have out and what the current movies available from your queue might be. In all, it is a fine but exceptionally boring, app.
My biggest problem with it, to be honest, is the fact that it’s one of the two more expensive apps in a series. At $2.99 it works just fine but he could do with being a bit more "interesting".
Quick Take
Value: Low at that price considering the other apps we’ll be looking at
Would I Buy Again: No
Learning Curve: Low
Who is it for: Netflix users who want to spend $3 they may not need to spend
What I like: Works well
What I Don’t: Boring and priced higher than most similar apps. I have no idea what they mean by the use of "innovative user interface" in the description. Innovative???
Final Statement: A good place to start. It would be a fine app if it were the only game in town. It’s not…
