Personal confession: holiday editions of games usually make me squirm. I made an exception with the Amateur Surgeon Christmas Edition because it was free and it had an entertaining plot about performing emergency surgery on Santa Claus.

Sadly, Robot Unicorn Attack Christmas Edition does not have any distinct plot all it’s own and costs $.99 (which, admittedly, is cheaper than the usual price of the standard or Heavy Metal editions). As a result, it’s not one I can readily recommend unless you’re seriously in the Christmas spirit.

The plot is very much the same as the other versions in which the Robot Unicorn has to run along, collecting certain items and avoid crashing into things and exploding. The difference is the items (and the roadblocks) in question all have a Christmas theme.

For example, the Robot Unicorn is wearing antlers and a Christmas sweater. There are Christmas lights, candy canes and gifts in the background. The area that the Unicorn runs in is covered with snow. Also, one of the roadblocks is now a giant snowflake.

As with other versions, there is a settings menu to control whether you want to hear the background music (Christmas-themed, of course), the sound effects or the vibration effect when the Unicorn crashes and explodes. You can also choose to control the game with either buttons or gestures.

If you already own one of the Robot Unicorn versions, this would simply be more of the same. On the other hand, if you don’t, this would be a good intro to the game at a good price. I leave the final decision to you.

Quick Take

Would I Buy Again:Possibly.

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:Lovers of Adult Swim games and Robot Unicorn completists.

What I Like:Somewhat amusing.

What I Don't Like:Redundant of other Robot Unicorn games.

Final Statement:The Robot Unicorn is back. And now he's in the holiday spirit.
