The game itself is your basic gang-war shoot-em-up.  Tony Montana is standing in some section of his mansion while thugs try to gun him down and he fires back.  There are standard controls on the lower left and right corners of the screen.  The left tilts the crosshairs of the gun around the screen and the right fires it.

Graphics and animation are beautiful.  I don’t recall the movie that well but I’m willing to bet this game duplicates the mansion’s layout and decoration with great accuracy.  There are even quotes from the movie written on the screen between scenes.  You can also stop by Tony’s office between scenes to load up on ammo and check score and rankings.  The app does have my favorite feature of playing iPod music in the background.

If the game had any shortcomings, it would be the inability to move Tony himself around the mansion.  As a result, the game feels more like a tower defense than a story.  The purpose being to keep Tony himself from getting killed.  Also, the app is kind of pricey and is part of the new wave of more expensive and more complex iPhone app games.

If you’re a die-hard Scarface movie fan, then this app is for you.  If not, you’ll have to decide if the price is worth it.

Quick Take

Value:High.

Would I Buy Again:If I had the seven bucks to spare, yes.

Learning Curve:Low to Medium.

Who Is It For:Expatriates from Cuba. Or Scarface fans. Or fans of shooting games.

What I Like:Excellent graphics, animation and reproduction of the movie.

What I Don't Like:Can't move Tony around the mansion. You only control his gun.

Final Statement:If you like Scarface, then say hello to my little friend.
