This is why I love my job. I get to try out so many apps which I wouldn’t even hear of, otherwise. Scribble Hero from Nickelodeon is one such game, I’m glad to have found.
Like any other doodle games, we have our Scribble hero and other hand-drawn villains fighting it out on a notebook. He is attacked by massive colonies of protozoans and he has to survive with the help of his perpetual firing gun. The controls are unique or rather, odd. Drag him to the right page and he’ll face left to attack towards left and vice versa. Collect coins, bombs, time, hearts, shield etc and hold on till the progress bar fills up. On completing a level, your scores are calculated based on your kills and a grade is awarded.
The real fun begins when you unlock new features and reach deeper levels. Spoiler – Addiction! Levels become harder with giant worms, robo microbes, synchronized attacks and also occasional bosses. Coins can be used to buy weapons like double barrels, triple splitter, bazooka, lasers etc or utilities like bombs, time warp, shields, magnets etc. Buy a companion side-kick like a metal bull dog or dragon or zombie who’ll lead the attack with you. If you die during a mission, time is turned back to give you another chance and there’s a surprise! Your previous ghost will also fight with you and there are two versions of you, taking down the army. If you still lose, no more resurrection and you can rest in peace. Guess what, you can also buy stylish tomb-stones with coins!
Though the gameplay is real simple, the too perfect execution, animations, eventfulness and kabooms makes you want more. Addiction is guaranteed but be ready to spend some bucks. The sound effects are super effective but the odd controls aren’t the best. I would certainly love to see an alternate control system, especially for the iPad. Overall, Scribble Hero has impressed me alot and is totally worth money I put in.
Would I Buy Again:Without doubt
Learning Curve:Low, but takes some time to get used
Who Is It For:Doodle and action lovers
What I Like:The colorful animations
What I Don't Like:The controls are cumbersome on the iPad
Final Statement:Totally worth the money!
