User Rating:The Sleepmaker series is basically a sound-generating program that plays certain noises that presumably put you to sleep. They offer rain, storms, waves, wildlife and streams which come in either free, classic or pro versions. As you go up the version (and price) scale, the user gets more options for what type of rain he or she wants to hear.
Admittedly, I’m the sort who can fall asleep while hearing the rain, so I thought I’d give the Sleepmaker Rain Free version a shot. The free version only comes with two types of rainfall, neither of which are very heavy. I have an alarm clock with a speaker system for the iPod Touch set up at my bed. However, I didn’t think listening to this program through that helped me get to sleep at all. Perhaps it’s because the rain sounded somewhat artificial (although that could have been the nature of my speakers). Or perhaps I need heavier rain.
However, for those willing to shell out either $.99 or $2.99, you can get heavier rain and quite a variety of it at that. It should be noted that the program comes with a timer that automatically shuts off the sound after a certain period of time. That length can be adjusted from the informational menu.
Sleepmaker is more about sounds than looks so it comes with a very simple interface. If you have ever owned one of those alarm clocks that broadcast nature sounds when you wanted to wake up, Sleepmaker could be for you.
Pros: Nice idea. Simple interface.
Cons: Rain sounds artifical.
