User Rating:It’s quite hard to explain what sMoods is for. But, after using it I can vow it is one of the most useful networking apps I’ve checked. Think Facebook & Twitter combined with SMS, tied to your friends. Kind of.
So, what’s sMoods for? Well, after registering (via the app) in their website, you can add your phone’s contacts to specific “moods.” Wait, what? Well, imagine you are in the mood of going for a coffee. And there’s a subset of friends you love hanging out for a coffee. When you start using the app (if you want to take most out of the app, of course!) you add these contacts to this specific mood (it’s really quick to do so) and you’re ready to go. When you set yourself in the mood for a coffee – which, by the way, has a timer that you can customise… after 30 minutes you may not want a coffee any more! – just tap it and you can either SMS your friends automatically or just post the mood online. Your friends will catch it anyway, if they have the app. If they don’t the SMS works as well. The SMS function is intelligent too, i.e. from the My Friend’s Moods tab you can send an SMS only to people who’d rather have a coffee, too. Instead of I’m in for a coffee you can instead say Let’s met at the Starbucks down the street. Great for quick appointments, and a handy tool for quick business meetings with coworkers. If you are in the mood for a business meeting, of course 😉 You can also request new moods from the main site, just in case what you wanted to do wasn’t listed.
Of course, it is cheaper to get your friends to install the app (and I bet you’ll be doing that.) sMoods beats similar apps. Facebook and twitter don’t focus on the instant notification. Of course there are people that are always checking Facebook and twitter… But these are the people you don’t like hanging out with. After all, it’s no fun being with someone glued to his phone!
An interesting difference with other social networks is the strong privacy sMoods offers. When you set a mood, email data of your contacts is sent to the sMoods main server (via a secure connection, of course) but is not stored for long term tracking whatsoever. No online stalking of any kind. You can check their help page to learn more about their strong privacy policy.
In short: sMoods is a very interesting social networking app. We think you should definitely give it a spin in your iPhone
