Today iH8sn0w released the new sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 2 to the public and the new version of the program will allow us to do untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS with an old bootrom.

The program still works using the exploit limera1n and custom ipsw’s can be made only in Windows using sn0wbreeze. A version of PwnageTool which allows untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS on iOS 5 could be available soon but Dev Team doesn’t announced anything for this purpose.

You can check which bootrom version you have, using the program F0recast and if he tells you that you have new bootrom than your jailbreak will be tethered and not untethered, so be careful with this one. redsn0w 0.9.8 Beta 1 doesn’t do untethered jailbreak for your iPhone 3GS with an old bootrom, so you don’t have to bother trying.
