There are some tasks that are best accomplished using a device like the iPhone. There are other tasks which would be possible with any Internet connected device but become incredibly easy and convenient when using the iPhone and a well written piece of software. This application is a good example of the latter.

There’s nothing this app does that could not be accomplished on a laptop, a netbook, or, for that matter, any telephone that has a web browser built in. The combination of the iPhone and the software, however, makes things faster and easier than one could possibly imagine.

With Halloween done and Thanksgiving fast approaching in the United States, there is no doubt winter is on the way. That means bundling up, getting a fire going, and, for many people, hitting the ski slopes. That’s what this application comes in rather handy.

Imagine there’s a specific ski resort you want to visit. Before you get there, spending your hard earned cash and your all too little free time, you want to know what the conditions are like. Sure, a bad day of skiing is always better than a good day at work, but a good day of skiing is always best. This application gives you some good basic information about a wide variety of ski resorts with just a tap or two on the screen.

So you want to know what the base depth of snow is? Do you want to know what the weather has been for the past 48 hours? Do you want to know what the current conditions are? This app will tell you within seconds. Then, if you want more information you can simply tap the button marked "full report" or the one marked "weather" and the iPhone’s browser immediately opens to give you much more information.

Sure, you could get all this information going through Google and Safari. This application, however, makes it much much easier and lets you check numerous resorts without having to keep going back to Google.

Snow Reports is very good for what it does. My only criticism, in fact, is that it could do much much more. It could, for example, it could give you information on contacting the resort right within the app rather than requiring you to first go to the web browser to get that information. It could, for example, provide directions from your current location to the resort with attacker to the button rather than requiring you to first go to the web browser to get that information. Both of these functions are available in many of the apps that helped direct you toward restaurants and there’s no reason why it couldn’t be implemented here, as well.

But, for what it is, this is excellent and works well. And, who knows, maybe in an upcoming version of the software these functionalities and more will be included.

For now, however, if you are an avid skier this app is for you.

Quick Take

Value:  if you are a skier very  high
Would I Buy Again:  I’m not a huge skier so doesn’t hold the value for me that  it does for somebody  who is passionate about skiing
Learning Curve:  low to zero
Who is it for:  ski bums of every shape and size
What I like:  works quite easily and well
What I Don’t:  could do much more than it currently does

Final Statement:  worth it if your skier not worth it if you’re not. We’ll let you know what we see updates available.
