Sometimes a game comes along that has the potential to be a mini-hit on the App Store, but is too stark of features to pull it off. That’s what the wheel-rolling Speedy Wheels is guilty of.

In Speedy Wheels, you control a solitary car tyre and race it across the game’s one and only level, aiming to get the best time possible. Along the way you can pick up coins, and that’s about it really.

The game plays fairly well, with the player simply tapping in the corner of the screen to speed the wheel up, and holding down on the same button to bring it to the ground if you’re getting too much air. It quickly gets boring repeating the same level however, and would be much better off if there were collapsing bridges, gaps, and some big jumps to make.

In terms of extra content, Speedy Wheels lets you unlock a couple of different wheels as you play the game. Aside from looking marginally different though, these are purposeless. There is also a Bluetooth-supported multiplayer mode, which lets you go head-to-head against another player, but you’ll have a tough time convincing your friends that this makes the game worth buying.

Speedy Wheels has charming hand-drawn visual style that gives the game that ‘kindergarten’ look. Once again, however, the fact that there is only one level means that this aspect of the game doesn’t get fully shown off.

Speedy Wheels has Game Center support, but the leaderboards are a sad and empty place. If this game had about 10 times more content, then its gameplay and graphics would make it a decent purchase. As it stands, it’s worthless.

Quick Take

Value:Low.

Would I Buy Again:No.

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:People who enjoy Time-attack games.

What I Like:Pleasing hand-drawn graphics.

What I Don't Like:Shocking lack of content.

Final Statement:More content, please!

Race your wheel up and down the treacherous hills of the city. Instead of controlling a car, you tap to force the wheel along the road towards the finish line. The faster the wheel goes, the higher your score gets. Collect coins along the way to better your score. Roll on over to the store and use the coins to unlock more wheels. Bored playing alone? Try out the head to head multiplayer with other iPhone, iPod, and iPad users over Bluetooth.

Can you take 1st place in the world? Complete with a Game Center leaderboard and achievements.

Speedy Wheels features hand-drawn graphics and fun music to play to!
