Firefighting has never been so interesting. Life on an alien planet seems to take place within the same physical confines of our universe – Things do catch fire. In this game, you take control of a firetruck and levels revolve around putting out these fires.

Sounds boring? Far from it.

Each level is strategically designed to have fires placed amongst well positioned slopes. The architecture of levels as well as the realistic physics mechanisms allow for a lifelike experience whereby water flows virtually as it would in real time. Add fluid graphics into the equation and you have the stage set for one of the best puzzlers you can get.

Controls are rather complicating to understand. One one side of the screen players take control of the firetruck itself, or rather the crane on which the water cannon is mounted. Players slide their fingers up and down to adjust the height of the hose, then twist around to set the nozzle in position. On the other side of the screen lies the firing button, where tapping and holding unleashes a finite stream of water gushing straight ahead.

Yes, I said finite.

To the left of the red firing button lies a blue bar. This bar indicates how much water there is left to in the hose. The amount of water used, along with other determinants like time taken to put out the fires add up to whatever scores players obtain after the game. To make matters worse, occasionally you will have asteroids hitting your level screen sparking new fires and potentially messing up your game plan.

To spice the game up, certain levels will have obstacles to overcome. These include switches that have to be unlocked by shifting things like boulders across through spraying a concentrated jet of water at them. Others will have ice cubes slipping around where fast reflexes are required to complete the task. All this means players will have to carefully ration the amount of water they use.

All in all this game provides a huge sense of excitement and fulfillment to me. I’ve found myself hooked for hours on end and even now I am pushing the writing of this article to clear stages. 2 further worlds with their own unique levels are available for in-app purchases, and with a base price of $1.99 the app is a little expensive. However, the excellent game play more than justifies it.

Quick Take

Value:High

Would I Buy Again:Yes

Learning Curve:Difficult. Takes a while to grasp the techniques of the game.

Who Is It For:Just about everyone

What I Like:The awesome mechanics of the game

What I Don't Like:Controls aren't that responsive which can be a problem in stages that require precision

Final Statement:Far from mediocre
