Getting bad grades in math has never been this lucrative! I don’t know about you, but I always loathed maths. Couldn’t do it, wouldn’t do it, what a mess. Would it have helped me if there had been such an app as Square9, a revolutionary new puzzle app, constructed so as to make math easy and fun? It might very well have, especially if my parents had thrown in an ipad for good measure!

Square9 is a puzzle game. A pretty complex puzzle game, with two playing modes and four different levels of difficulty to choose from. You have to put falling bars with values on them in their place so they create squares. BUT: those bars can only be wedged between numbers that equal their total. If you fumble or get it wrong, the bar falls to the ground and you loose a life. It’s basically Tetris meets Sodoku with some Dots thrown in and an educational twist. Lose three lives and it’s game over. Also a valuable lesson to learn early on in life! Once you get to be any good, you can share your high scores via Facebook and Twitter.
It’s a fun game, and people who like puzzles will really enjoy it, as will kids, provided they get to do it instead of their homework. I do believe they will get the hang of their multiplication tables much easier this way, and I wish I had had such a fun way to learn them.

However, in spite of what people try to tell you, learning is hardly ever fun. Square9 does it better than most, with Tetris like gameplay, which really, really helps. But at the end of the day, it’s still maths! Big bonus is that parents will probably fork out gladly for this game, so maybe you can wheedle an ipad out of this as well?
