User Rating:Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an oldie in terms of the App Store, but it has just gotten a new lease on life by having its price lowered to $.99. Considering that the app started at $9.99, this is a significant discount.
And man is it a cool game! The premise is that during the time between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope", Darth Vader has taken on a secret apprentice named Starkiller (the original intended last name for Luke Skywalker). Starkiller’s mission is to hunt down and eliminate any remaining Jedi in the galaxy. In a surprising turn, the player is actually the bad guy. Although, since the apprentice is a secret one, he must also fight Imperial troops while tracking down the Jedi.
The 3D graphics are fantastic, particularly for the iPhone and iPod touch. The user can control the Force by making certain motions on the screen with his or her finger. For example, using the Force to lift boxes takes something of a loop motion. The application is pretty good at giving instruction on what to do and when.
You can play in either Story mode, where the entire story is played out, or Survival mode, which is simply fight to the death. In an excellent move on the part of the developers, the game can be played in both portrait and landscape.
At the current price, the game is quite simply a steal. Star Wars fans and non-Star Wars fans will definitely get a kick out of it.
