What can really be said about Tetris that hasn’t been said already?  It’s a classic.  It’s such a classic that the App Store is full of knock-off various games that are just different enough to prevent litigation.  However, the original by Electronic Arts is chock full of visual good that goes beyond putting shapes together as they fall.

There are two modes of play, Marathon and Magic.  Marathon is more traditional while Magic is about completing a certain number of lines per screen in order to advance a level.  You can even "hold" a piece, that is put it to the side for later, if putting it down would be a detriment to your victory.

Through the Options Menu, the player can control the volume or turn off certain sounds (music, SFX, etc.) and even play background music from his or her audio library while playing the game.  There is also a very good help menu in case further instruction on play is needed.

The graphics are excellent and certainly beyond the simplicity of the game.  I particularly like how lines of squares knock over like bowling pins when a row is completed.  When EA heard that they had the rights to the original game, they used all their resources to make the purchase worth it.

I had a problem with the full price of the app.  At $4.99 I felt it was slightly overpriced.  However, when I recently purchased Tetris, it was on sale for $2.99 in the App Store.  That may no longer be the case as of this writing.  If the discount is still in effect, I recommend downloading a.s.a.p. for hours of addictive goodness.
